>> how do you like this, guys? happy friday! it looks like a whole lot of nothing right now but very shortly it's going to be a whole lot of something. we're talking about a whole new stadium for the san jose earthquakes. what a big change in the weather around the bay area today. low clouds and fog, the drizzle on the coastline, it is cool to start out but muggy too, 62 in san jose. we'll have more on your weekend forecast coming up. >> it was a little muggy this morning. thanks, lawrence, and a little foggy. too. check the camera at the golden gate bridge. visibility could be an issue this morning from marin to san francisco. this weekend we have the big bridge closure. which one? we'll let you know coming up in a few minutes. developing news in san francisco. one person has been arrested in an early-morning high-speed police chase that turned into a shooting. about 2.5 hours ago, police say two men sped away from a routine traffic stop initiating a pursuit. the suspects soon started

firing at officers. a cab then collided with the speeding car as it ran a red light at franklin and eddy streets. both suspects fled. one man is still at large and no one was seriously hurt in the chase. >> it is 4:31 now. mandatory evacuations are in effect tonight for residents in the clearlake area of lake county. a 300-acre fire burning near the community there in lower lake. cal fire shut down highway 29 already. they say the flames are threatening more than 60 homes in the area. residents in twin lakes are also evacuating voluntarily. fire crews have the blaze about 20% contained so far. in east oakland police are conducting a homicide investigation in a residential neighborhood. a body was found last night near the intersection of voltaire and 107th avenue a block away from the foothill square shopping center. investigators aren't releasing any details. the head of oakland's port commission has been placed on paid leave over a strip club

controversy. executive director omar benjamin has been ordered to step down during the investigation. the port is looking into allegations that maritime director james kwon spent more than $4,500 of public funds at a texas strip club. that happened back in 2008. no word yet on kwon's fate. the san jose police department has arrested one of their own. an officer is suspected of committing grand theft as a result of time sheet fraud. the detail caught on the discrepancy after nine months of investigation. enslen has been placed on paid leave from the department while he has been booked at a santa clara county jail. bay area drivers may finally be feeling relief at the pump as national gas prices have dropped for an 11th day. according to the daily fuel inning ga report san francisco is still the highest local average and second highest in the state at $4.60 a gallon.

oakland second at $4.51. san jose at the lowest price in the region by one-cent. this one might hurt a bit. nationwide, prices have dipped to $3.72 a gallon. >> that's not fair. >> no. the giants' season on the line tonight after they lost to the cards again for the third time in the best-of-seven nlcs last night. dennis o'donnell has the full highlights and reaction from last night's losing pitcher. reporter: good morning from st. louis. it's going to be do or die for the giants tonight because last evening, tim lincecum gave up two runs in the 1st and was chased in the 5th inning. matt holliday with the shot to center. nice job by angel pagan to trap it. carpetter touched home plate making it 3-1. lincecum four runs, three walks. giants lost 8-3. >> extremely disappointed

because you find like you can pick your team up in a situation like this. when you don't do it, not much parter to fall i guess. >> reporter: so they have to win tonight to extend the series and bring it back to san francisco. barry zito will be on the hill to see if he can keep the giants season alive. meanwhile, an american league champion is crowned. the tiger's miguel cabrera the mvp taking cc sabathia deep in the 4th inning, detroit beat the yankees 4-1 to lock up their spot in the world series next week. it's the first time the yankees have been swept in the best-of- seven series since 1976. i think they hid about .156 in the series. they were awful. i'm not a big yankees fan. my heart don't bleed for those guys. the 9ers won. that was good news. >> that is good. 4:34. let's get another look at weather. lawrence has left yours. >> he has. >> hey. >> in san jose with a shovel. >> i'm ready to go to work. they are going to be doing a lot of work here in san jose.

they are building a whole new san jose for the san jose earthquakes. in fact they are planning on a groundbreaking ceremony this weekend and it's going to be a world record-breaker. if you wanted to be in the guinness book of world records you can join in. the shovels are down here if you want to come down. san jose this morning not bad. it is mostly clear but we have seen some changes overnight. some low clouds and fog moved in along the coast very damp out at the beaches. we are look at some drizzle there early on. so it's still a bit muggy outside. the temperatures running generally in the 60s, dew point and humidity levels up to 60 degrees outside. so it looks like we are going to see some changes today as that sea breeze kicks in and those cool temperatures -- you see that low off the coast? that will encroach closer over the weekend, temperatures continuing to drop. highs this afternoon, maybe we reach low 80s in the warmer spots well inland. i think you're looking at 60s, maybe 70s into san jose today

and 60s at the coastline. but you get the idea. it's going to be cooler all around the bay area. but you know what? this weekend, if you want one of these cool shovels, you come on down here, you help to break ground hand you get in the guinness book of world records. how about that, elizabeth! >> you look like a big kid. looks like fun even at 4:36 a.m. thanks, lawrence. san mateo bridge we have a big bridge closure this weekend. they are shutting down the span to make it safer for earthquakes, starting at 10 p.m. it runs all weekend long. hopefully they will reopen the bridge in time for the monday morning commute. so use the dumbarton bridge, bart might be a good option as well heading toward the big game in the east bay. that's something to be aware of. in the meantime for our morning drive, we have a ramp closure coming off the bridge westbound 92 to northbound 101. my own traffic producer got caught in this. ramp closure in effect until 5 a.m. so if you want to give yourself a little bit of extra time before you head off for work,

maybe a good idea. otherwise there's still roadwork both directions of 84. that's the dumbarton bridge. you are, it's a little sluggish on our live traffic sensors in the area. elsewhere 880 here's the nimitz in oakland. looks great from hayward up towards downtown. no delay. and once again bart, mass transit, all on time. ace train 1 looks good, muni, caltrain, ferries, problem- free. that's a check of your friday traffic. back to you guys. >> did you say friday? >> yes. >> just checking. [ laughter ] a prospective oakland politician is one of the city's latest crime victims after being robbedded at gunpoint. dan kalb was approached by an armed robber at his home on wednesday night. ironically the city council candidate had just returned home from a neighborhood crime prevention meeting. >> now i know how some people feel when they are victims of a crime. i was lucky. there are some people in our community who are not lucky, who are shot, permanently injured, murdered. >> he was not harmed.

the robber took his iphone and wallet. the candidate now says he emphathizes with his constituents who confront crime on at a daily basis. the bay area teenager who was denied the boy scouts' highest honor after admitting he is gay is getting support from around the world. 400,000 signatures were hand- delivered to ryan andresen. he still wears his uniform despite being kicked out of his troop. the family met with the scouts behind closed doors yesterday hoping for a policy change. >> the response back was pretty much the same. this is a national policy. we are told to follow the national policy. >> getting my eag al ward taken is totally devastating. hearing it's happening to other scouts is also totally devastating. >> he hopes to still receive the honor at the ceremony in may but already gotten several pins from other scouts as a show of support. in an unrelated event we are now learning that 23 former bay area boy scout volunteers

were named as alleged child molestors. the men were listed in a 14,000- page file kept secret by the scouts. the file details sexual abuse by scout leaders for decades. an oregon court ordered them released. the boy scouts have apologized to victims and their families. 4:39. the family of that murdered hercules woman is holding her funeral today. services for susie ko will be held at the st. patrick's church in rodeo at 10:00 this morning. ko was found stabbed to death in her hercules home on october 5. a couple was arrested last week near seattle in connection with the murder after they were spotted driving her stolen car. in other bay area headlines on this friday, today the family and friends of missing girl sierra lamar will be privately remembering her on her 16th birthday. lamar went missing on march 16th on her way to catchy school bus in morgan hill. volunteers will search for her again on saturday. plans for the downtown san francisco transbay terminal

tower received final approval yesterday. the building, which will stand at first and mission streets, will be the city's tallest building at 1,070 feet high. several groups have complained about the shadows the building will cast on public spaces and parks. starting saturday, the new 669 area code will be introduced to santa clara county. only new phone numbers will carry the 669 code. for all calls, everyone in the region will have to dial one plus the area code before dialing a seven-digit number. did you happen to catch the fireball that lit up the sky on wednesday night? the meteor man did and he is sharing his video with cbs 5. check it out. nasa researcher captured it on a network of computers and highly sensitive images. the meteor entered the atmosphere off the coast of monterey and made landfall somewhere in the north bay. >> all i'm hoping is that this trajectory, this orbit, will find a little remnant on the

paddle board and back to shore. the owner hasn't been found. as for charlie he is back to make his 600-mile paddle boat trip. next year he is planning a 3,000-mile journey across the atlantic. lawrence is in san jose. he had a shovel earlier. where's the helmet? >> they haven't turned on the big gear. we have the tractor behind us. i'm in an open field that looks like a whole lot of nothing this morning but you know what? it's going to be a very busy weekend here as they are doing the groundbreaking and they are trying to break a world record here in san jose. they need more than 4500 people to come out here and guess what? they have already got 5500 guaranteed to come out here. but you're more than welcome to come down. they have over 6,000 shovels down here. you can bring your own shovel, too, if you want to. they want to bring you out to the field and they want to do the groundbreaking and get ready for the new san jose earthquakes stadium here. it's going to be something

else. by the way, the san jose earthquakes headed for the play- offs this year. the weather, we have some big changes coming up. you may have noticed a bit of a sea breeze kicking in bringing with it low clouds and fog. so watch out for that. drizzle at the coast very wet out toward the immediate coastline. up along 280 driving along that today we had drizzle, as well. so a little damp on the roads. toward the afternoon, we are expecting some sunshine and some partial clearing. but yeah, these temperatures are going to be way down. say good-bye to the 90s. they are not going to be returning for some time as we'll see highs maybe topping out in the low 80s inland. you will see a lot of 60s around the bay, some 70s into san jose. so high pressure weakening somewhat. that low is moving closer to the coastline. the sea breeze is on the increase and yeah, there's a chance of rain in our forecast. things are going to be changing as we head into the next few days. today the temperatures are going to be dropping often a bit. still some 70s into the san jose area for today. sunshine throughout the day. as you make your way toward the coast 60s at the beaches and a lot of clouds. as you look toward the east bay

maybe some low 80s into the livermore area that's probably going to be one of the warmest temperatures. otherwise as we head inside the bay going to take longer for some of the clouds to clear out and that means temperatures will be cooler than what we had with that offshore wind yesterday. still, looking out toward the weekend, we are expecting some cooler temperatures all around the bay area. those numbers will be dropping off. major changes coming as we look toward the beginning of this next week. that's right! we could see the first significant storm system of the season moving in. that means rain possible on monday, tuesday and wednesday of next week so yeah, it's probably a good idea they are doing this groundbreaking on sunday because on monday this is going to be one big mud puddle out here, elizabeth. >> i know. it's true. the rain is coming. the storm door. we are getting ready here in the traffic department as well monday through wednesday. let's go outside enjoy this dry weather while it lasts because it's quiet on the roads so far to start off this friday morning commute. we can call it "friday light" so far this morning. this is the bay bridge toll

plaza. looks good into san francisco. to our maps and we have some areas of roadwork still blocking lanes including a full ramp closure. in caltrans crews are busy until 5:00 this morning on 101. lawrence mentioned fog and muggy conditions out the door had morning. look at this camera. you can see it this morning towards the golden gate bridge. foggy in spots. so visibility will be an issue heading into san francisco. drive time not too bad though between 580 and the golden gate bridge toll plaza. show you a few more traffic cameras. it's clear in this area. this is milpitas. for silicon valley commuters, so far looks good on westbound 237. nice and quiet. leaving milpitas heading towards san jose. and quick check of the dumbarton bridge. we have that overnight roadwork in effect. you can see the slowdowns on our sensors in the westbound lanes of 84. caltrans tells us 5:00 they should wrap that up. the nimitz 880 in oakland, you can better see those

same page. >> here's what i'll say. if four americans get killed it's not optimal and we'll fix it. >> this week, the president and secretary of state hillary clinton have both come out and asked to take the blame for the deaths of four americans in libya. new details indicate the cia reported libyan militants were involved in last month's consulate violence within 24 hours of the attack. the white house maintained for the week that the violence was sparked by protests over an american anti-islamic film. it's unclear when that report was analyzed by analysts. conflicting details around the bangladesh native accused of trying to blow up the new york federal reserve bank. friends and family say 21-year- old kwauzi nafis wanted to come to america and study and often stated true muslims didn't believe in violence. federal authorities say nafis was determined to become a martyr for the cause. he was arrested wednesday as part of a very elaborate fbi sting. $20 billion in value gone

in minutes. that's what happened at google when a 3rd quarter earnings report was released mistakenly hours before the market opened. the stock value dropped 9% in minutes. it finished the day down about 8%. also, after the closing bell, microsoft reported lower profits and revenue ahead of its windows 8 launch. and sunnyvale's advanced microdevices or amd says it will lay off about 1800 people, about 15% of its workforce. the company's revenue was down 25% in the 3rd quarter. amd is intel's smaller rival in making microprocessor chips for personal computers. well, the reviews are in and four out of five online reviews of restaurants or other services are fake. it turns out the companies are offering cash for positive testimonials. yelp is cracking down on that though. if a fake post is discovered, the website will slap a consumer alert label on the company's page for three

months. >> hey, trying to buy fake reviews for your website isn't going to work. it's unethical. and it's probably also illegal. and we are going to let consumers know about it. >> one of the companies paying for fake reviews was actually a paid advertiser on yelp. they not only got slapped with that label but also lost their contract. a blood test may be able to identify women with a high risk of breast cancer up to 20 years before symptoms appear. researchers in boston found women with a certain combination of hormone levels in their blood were two times more likely to eventually develop breast cancer. scientists are hopeful that one day the findings could lead to a common blood test for women. time now 4:51. it will make history. the major construction project just approved for san francisco. >> plus how a down on his luck 22-year-old's life changed with a dollar. >> and springing into action. how a pro wrestler stopped criminals in his tracks.

to the minneapolis airport on a commuter train when things got out of hand. a drunk passenger started yelling at others on the train. the wrestler put the man in a chokehold and threw him off at the next stop.
